How much does digital signage cost?

When investing in digital structures, there is one thing which matters the most for businesses: The cost-usage-factor. Many decide for digital signage because they benefit from a wide variety of advantages and the application possibilities extend over different areas. Digital signage solutions are advertising displays and presentation mediums in one. The application also allows a flexible display of different types of content.

Businesses are aware of these advantages but there are still remaining questions regarding the cost structure:

  • How much is the software?
  • How much is the hardware?
  • Are there individual offers?
  • Do costs depend on time of subscription?
  • Do companies such as FRAMR offer subscription models? If so, how much are they?

Hereafter we will answer these questions and go deeper into the cost structures. Furthermore we will show you example offers and how you will make the right choice for your business.

Digital Signage costs

Digital signage costs: Prices are always individual

We can’t answer questions of costs for digital signage easily. There is no price list or something similar, instead costs always depend on individual wishes and desires. It is only possible to show an approximate direction and which costs might be incurred.

Modules and functions build the base of digital signage costs. Other cost factors are service (e. g. maintenance) and subscription running time. But the type of software also matters – for example, browser based digital signage solutions cost more than applications which only work with specific operating systems. Furthermore the amount of playlists and storage space are cost factors as well.

But costs don’t only depend on the digital signage application but also on the business. There is a difference if a purchaser needs 20 monitors or only one. You also need to make a difference if digital signage is used to display elaborately produced content or to support employee communication.

Differ between costs for software and hardware

Digital signage applications are made of two components, namely software and hardware. Businesses allow the usage of digital signage software for a fee in return, starting at between 5 and 10 € per month. In addition, there are costs for the hardware amounting to at least 900 €. Costs for hardware don’t only consider the purchase of a display but also for players which are required to use the software and external cloud hosting. The latter has advantages in the area of data security and maintenance.

Prices for hardware vary. The prices for displays with high resolution start at only about 700 €. But if you want the best quality possible then you rather invest more. And those who use digital signage for outdoor operations shouldn’t save money on the hardware because favorable devices are not always protected from weather influences and vandalism.

Digital signage costs are flexible

There are far more cost factors for digital signage applications. Many providers create content for their clients. Many purchasers also seek advice for marketing and presentation which causes additional costs as well. Therefore it’s barely possible to mention concrete costs for digital signage because there are too many variables. In most cases, the combination of software and hardware is enough but their prices depend on different factors as well.

Our advice: Determine your needs in advance. Inform yourself about application possibilities and know the size of your project. The more precisely your business knows its needs, the better you can calculate possible costs.

Interview

FRAMR developer Lukas Aumair about digital signage

Cost savings shouldn’t be your number one priority

The countless application possibilities with digital signage require a demand planning in the first step. In this context, the question is justified, if it’s not better to waive off some functions or to buy cheap hardware. But this is not a purposeful approach. Digital signage is based on the approach to display information and advertising in high quality to offer target groups a wide media diversity. Limited software functions and low quality hardware don’t live up with these expectations.

After all, it’s important to remember that the benefits and advantages clearly outweigh the costs. You can learn more about this in our blog post “What is Digital Signage?”.
